The Filming Process

PRE-CEREMONY

We attend and film your rehearsal which will allow us to get familiar with your church and plan for camera and microphone placement. We will meet with your church official to approve of our plan and to discuss rules and conduct (any restriction that he/she may have in terms of camera placement, use of wireless microphone, etc). It would also be a pleasure to meet your families and friends. We film your photo-shoot session. Some couples have their photos shot before the day of the wedding at a photo studio. We create a short "behind-the-scenes" montage of the session. If the photographer will also be shooting your wedding ceremony and reception, we will meet with him/her to ensure that we will not get in his/her way. We film the bride shopping for her gown and the groom shopping for his suit. We create a short montage of these sessions.

AT THE BRIDE'S HOME BEFORE THE CEREMONY

We will cover the bride as she goes about getting ready. This includes the bride's makeup session, putting on the gown, last minute tears with parents, bridesmaids. All of this will be captured naturally, candidly as they happen using available lighting. From this we create a slow-motion, special effects (sepia tone, black&white, widescreen) montage of the mornings event set to music that you select (kind of like a music video).

CEREMONY

We will be at the church at least one hour before the ceremony to setup and collect exterior and interior shots (flowers, decorations, etc.) of the church. We will cover the guests, family members, groom, best man, maid of honour(s) and finally the bride arriving at the church. We will cover the entire ceremony right up to you exiting the church and driving away in your limousine. If you wish, one videographer can ride along with you and film this special magical moment as you drive away from the church. If you will have a receiving line after the ceremony, we will also capture you and your guests as they exit the church. The long version of your tape will contain the whole ceremony including any readings/full mass (During our initial session with you, we will ask you if you want us to capture any readings/full mass). We will also cover your photo session at a park. The "Wedding Highlights" (see further detailed description below) option contains a shortened, edited version of your ceremony done in a music-video style using music of your choice. A wireless microphone on the groom (where permitted - some churches have restrictions on using wireless microphones. We will have, as a backup, a wired microphone) will be used to capture your vows clearly.

We will also capture your photo session at the park. Again, we capture the candid moments and events as they occur naturally, never getting in the way of your photographer. This will be edited into a moving montage using music of your choice.

RECEPTION

5We will be at the reception a half hour to one hour before the guest arrives to setup and collect exterior and interior shots of the restaurant. The reception portion of your video will be a montage of selected moments and highlights (summary) from the evening including last minute preparations in the restaurant, the receiving line, your entrance, your first dance, various shots of your guests dancing to a particular song, complete coverage of speeches and toasts, fun and games, cutting of the cake, garter and bouquet toss, and other candid moments. Note that we do not film people while they are eating. This montage will be edited with 2-3 songs of your choice. The length of this piece will be about 10-15 minutes. Unlike other videographers, we stay right to end of the reception to capture the last moments when the party winds down. If you still have enough energy left at the end of the day, we will capture your final thoughts of the day before you head off to your honeymoon.

If you wish, we can also interview friends and family members to say a few words for posterity. You will need to provide us a list of names that we can talk to and questions that you would like us to ask. We will NOT go from table to table putting your guests in an embarrassing situation asking for their messages. We will set up a camera off to the side (in another room or in the lobby) where guests or people that you want to get comments from are invited to come up to say a few words voluntarily. This puts your guests at ease, and they are more willing to participate.

WEDDING HIGHLIGHTS

This is a video-music montage of the highlights of the entire day (around 15 minutes) tastefully edited and set to the music (2 songs) of your choice. The actual length of this will depend on the packages and options that you have chosen. This is where our creativity takes over as we tastefully use black&white, sepia toned, soft focus, wide-screen, slow motion effects timed perfectly to your music to bring out the full emotion. One thing we will refuse to do is to use canned, cheesy effects. All of our effects are done in-house and sometime effects are done on a frame by frame basis (our unique editing approach). Hence this is why it takes upwards of 45-55 hours of intense editing.

This is the video that you will want to show everybody without having to watch the full-length version (How many times do you want to relive the reading or the full mass or watching all the dancing?).

BABY PICTURES MONTAGE

This video-music montage shows you two growing up from birth to courtship. This usually appears after the opening credits and is a terrific way to begin your video. You will provide to us 30 pictures and music to set the montage to. We will integrate this montage with your love story (if you select this second option). We can also edit in any "home video" footage that you would like to include.

PHOTO-MONTAGE OF YOUR HONEYMOON

Using photographs (up to 30) and/or video that you have taken during your honeymoon, we will create a 5-10 minute montage using music of your choice. This will be added to the end of your wedding video tape right before the credits.

LOVE STORY - BASIC

This will be a video-music montage which shows you two together in your favourite spot (park, amusement park, beach, etc.). We will spend a day collecting footage of you two together in embrace, hugging, kissing, dancing, etc. If you two are not shy talking in front of a camera (we will never force you to talk if you do not want to), we can also interview you each separately to tell the story on how you met, when you knew that you were meant for other, the proposal, etc. We then create a montage consisting of your interview mixed in with the on-location shots of you two set to music of your choice. The length of this montage is from 5-10 minutes in length edited to 2 songs of your choice.

LOVE STORY - 4 SEASONS OF LOVE

This is similar to the Love Story - Basic as explained above except that we will spend 4 days with you (1 day per season - winter, Spring, Summer and Fall). This is the ultimate in creating a fantasy montage where we film you in the same location over the span of a year. Before filming, we will sit with you to discuss the story (in order to create some continuity across the four seasons). We then edit creatively to mix and match between the footage shot during the 4 sessions using 3 songs of your choice. The length of this montage will be around 10-15 minutes.

NOTE:

You must book our service a year in advance of your wedding in order to cover the 4 seasons.

VIDEO PROJECTION OF BABY PICTURE MONTAGE AND LOVE STORY

During the evening of your reception, we can then show your baby pictures montage and love story montage on a large screen to your guests (optional feature). This will provide to your guests a glimpse of you two growing up and how you two met. In order to do this, we will need ample time in advance to shoot and edit the montage as well as prepare the baby pictures montage.

COMPLETE DIGITAL FROM START TO FINISH

To ensure the highest image and sound quality, the whole process of capturing your wedding to editing and to the final master copy will be in digital. See "Our Equipment" for further detail.

CAMERA COVERAGE

We use, as a minimum, 2 3CCD professional broadcast digital video cameras with 2 operators. This allows for greater coverage of your wedding day:
  • The primary camera focuses exclusively on the bride and groom. During the ceremony, the primary camera will focus on the bride. This camera will be located behind the alter, if permitted (to the right of the groom). During the reception, this primary camera will focus on the Bride and Groom.

  • The second camera captures the reactions and emotions of guests, parents, reaction of the groom as he views the bride walking down the aisle for the first time in her wedding gown. During the ceremony, the second camera will be positioned from behind the Bride and Groom, facing the official. This camera will capture the Bride and Groom kissing as well as leading the groom and bride as they walk down the aisle during the recessional. During the reception, this second camera will focus on reaction shots of parents and guests and other footage.

  • A third digital camera with operator can also be used for capturing additional footage and is usually placed to the right of the bride focusing on the groom.
Multiple camera coverage will provide a more cinematic style with intimate close-ups. We will be able to catch action and re-action of the groom and bride. Through the editing sessions, we will choose the best shots from each camera and seamlessly edit them together much like that in a movie. The next time you watch a film, watch how the shots are edited together when two characters are speaking to each other. This would be hard, if not impossible with a single camera coverage.

Another advantage with multiple cameras is that we will even be less intrusive as there is no need to move around as much. During the ceremony we usually remain stationary. The rules of the church will be strictly followed. Many churches have placed strict guidelines in terms of prohibiting flashes, glaring video lights and even where cameras are allowed to be placed. This has come as a result of amateur, aggressive, annoying photographers/videographers jumping/running around just to get the shot thus turning the ceremony into a big production. We, like most other reputable companies, take pride in our discreet, helpful and unobtrusive manner.

DVD AND COPYRIGHT

Your wedding video will be digitally mastered directly from the computer. The sound will be encoded in Dolby Digital (2 Channel).

All packages come with your wedding video mastered on DVD. Our footage will be shot on DV which currently provides the highest picture and sound quality. DVD is a great way to enjoy your video as it was meant to be seen.

We do keep the edited master on DV format so if you need additional copies in the future, you can contact us. We hold copyrights to the content of the video.
