| History of our Club |
|
In 1996, the Montreal Chan Dragon Boat Sports Club was founded and organized by Jimmy Chan.
At that time, he joined forces with the Gee How Tong and Chan Wings Chun Tong Associations, and became an independent men's team called Dragon Knights in late 90's.

| Dragon Knights (men's team) |
|
Our men's team, Dragon Knights has been around ever since
dragon boating was introduced in Montreal, and was the only team in our club at that time. The name of this team comes from a great historical mysterious legend of thousands of years. Long ago,
a knight was sent to conquer a powerful dragon. After defeating the dragon, the knight became its master, earning the title of the Dragon Knight.
Dragon Knights have been competing in various areas in different competitions. Most of the team mates of the original dragon knights have been with us since the beginning (1996). Although some of them gradually retired from dragon boating, the remaining paddlers in our club have given all the new members a passionate guidance to become a good paddler for the team.
This year, we strike again. Just like every year. We will go out, stay together and we will have fun while maintaining a competitive edge at the same time.

| Phoenix Warriors (mixed team) |
|
In 2004, our club developed its second team: a mixed team called
"Phoenix Warriors" under the Montreal Chan Dragon Boat Sports Club. This
very new team has earned their accomplishments through commitment, hard
work and teamwork.
This very young and newly developed team in 2004 and 2005 have earned their title of three trophies, two plaques, and nine
medals in just two year's time.
The name Phoenix Warriors comes from a mysterious legend of 5000 years in China. Before there were any species, there were dragons and phoenix. These two heavenly uknown creatures dominated the whole universe.f It was the right name to choose to show the identity of the true spirit.
Today, in the 20th century, our mixed team, Phoenix Warriors consists of a bunch of super athletes who love to paddle with great positive energy, strong focus, good sportsmanship, loyalty, and faithfulness to one another in the team.

| Our Goals for this year |
Even though we are a recreational team, we take this sport very seriously. We train hard to stay competitive.
Like our captain Jimmy says, for this year, the new structure of our team is to bring in the new vision of more commitment. When training as a team and alone in the gym, we must follow the same fitness training program; this program will be especially designed by the captain and coach. This will be much more efficient and effective. When training on the boat, there is only one technique and only two voices for instruction (captain and coach).
Everyone will be given a physical evaluation to show what level everyone is at, to know how much each member should improve to attain the same level. Everyone's attendance in every practice, as well as experience, will determine each member's seating position and what races each member will race in. Even though there are alternate paddlers in the team, everyone will get the opportunity to race at least once each competition.
New recruits must pass a physical fitness evaluation before being accepted as a member of the team. They will also be given a chance to try-out on the boat.
Jimmy suggests we create more outdoor activities for team bonding to create closer relationships to learn more about one another and the team. We will work
hard and stick together to reach our common goal.
There is zero tolerance for negative criticism. This will develop greater team spirit and confidence.
As our captain always says, training harder is never good enough until you reach your goal with confidence to face any unknown challenge at anytime, anywhere. This is our vision
for the team this year. It is all about self-esteem and it is how we will reach our stronger level. With all our respect, we must all earn our seat.
It is always more fun when we win. The last paddle wins.
Our team stands for...
one mind
one spirit
and one heart
Let our great dragon boat season begin, 2007!
