Indoor Training (2006)
Due to the reconstruction and closure of the Olympic Stadium, we have changed our indoor training location to the Westmount YMCA (Westmount, 4585 Sherbrooke Street West).

Our training at the YMCA conists of the following:

  • 1 hour of aerobics
  • 1 hour of weight training
  • Indoor Training (Previous Years)
Our indoor training consists of calisthenics and in-pool exercises at the Olympic Stadium and/or Olympic Basin.

Calisthenic exercises that we use include push-ups, abdominal exercises, burpees (combination of squats, vertical jumps, and push-ups), and many others.

In-pool exercises involve going in a swimming pool and performing ceratin kicking exercises and to pratice our paddling technique sitting along the side of the pool.

These particular exercises that we chose to use increase our strength, stamina, flexibility and muscle endurance. These workouts are used to prepare all paddlers to be fit in the boat training during the spring and summer in the water.

At the end of each workout, we cool down by performing stretches for every muscle group.

These training methods are being used by many dragon boat teams and it has shown great results in competitions.
